Visit of the Slovenian Delegation to the Municipality of Žabljak
In early November, the leadership of the Centre for International Cooperation and Development (CMSR) visited Montenegro, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia (MZEZ). The main purpose of the visit was to inaugurate the Construction of a Construction Waste Landfill and an Additional Municipal Waste Disposal Site project in the Municipality of Žabljak, which was co-financed by the MZEZ and successfully completed in cooperation with the municipality.
This project is an important step towards establishing a more efficient waste management system and protecting the natural environment, both of which are essential for the area's sustainable development and for strengthening the region's tourism appeal.
In recent years, the Republic of Slovenia has co-financed numerous projects in the region that have significantly improved infrastructure, tourism and the quality of life for local residents. The delegation was led by the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Montenegro, Ms Bernarda Gradišnik, and representatives:
- Edvin Skrt, Director-General of the Directorate for International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid (MZEZ);
- Eva Nastav, Ph.D., , Director of the International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Sector (MZEZ);
- Dejan Prešiček, Director of CMSR;
- Mojca Kopše, Head of the MRS Department;
- Borut Valenčič, Economic Counsellor.
During the visit, the delegation viewed several projects that had been successfully completed with Slovenian co-financing, including the recycling centre, the sports hall, the municipal landfill and the Gorske Oči hotel. The reopening of the recycling centre in Žabljak is an important step towards cleaner environments and sustainable regional development.
The leadership of the Municipality of Žabljak expressed their gratitude to the Slovenian partners for their long-standing support and success.
Representatives of CMSR also visited the Možura sanitary landfill in Montenegro, where they inspected the newly built biogas plant with the management of the public company Možura d.o.o. The biogas-to-electricity conversion project was successfully implemented in accordance with the planned schedule within the framework of the partnership between CMSR and JKP Možura.
The system is yet to undergo trial operation and the project is yet to be officially inaugurated. This project will be a significant step towards more sustainable waste management and the use of renewable energy sources in the region.
The visit also served to monitor the implementation of the project "Support to Key Long-term Energy Efficiency Measures Development (SKLAD)”, which CMSR is carrying out in cooperation with the Eco Fund of Montenegro and with the support of the Slovenian Ministry of the Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy (MOPE).
The project promotes the renovation of buildings to be more energy efficient, the use of renewable energy sources and the development of e-mobility, thereby contributing to reduced emissions, improved energy efficiency and a healthier environment.
By working together, Slovenia and Montenegro are advancing the green transition and strengthening cooperation in areas that contribute to a more sustainable, resilient, and interconnected region.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our partners in Montenegro and Slovenia for their exceptional cooperation, trust, and collaborative efforts in building a greener future!
