The French development agency Expertise France visited the mining depths of Šaleška Valley

Last week, CMSR welcomed partners from the French development agency Expertise France, with whom we are jointly developing a project to support a just transition in the Western Balkans. The project aims to support regions, industries, and workers in the transition towards a more sustainable and climate-neutral future.

The meeting provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on upcoming project activities, partner cooperation, and the exchange of knowledge and good practices related to just transition, energy transition, and regional development.

On the second day of the visit, we travelled together to Velenje and visited the Slovenian Coal Mining Museum, where we learned more about the history of the coal-mining region, as well as the challenges and opportunities linked to the transition away from coal towards sustainable development models. Visits such as these are essential for better understanding the local realities and the needs of communities most affected by the transition.

We look forward to continuing our cooperation and jointly developing solutions for a sustainable future in the Western Balkans.
